Israeli naval vessels targeted on Saturday, September 2, 2023, Palestinian fishermen’s boats in the water off the northern coast of Gaza.
Local sources reported that the Israeli occupation forces opened fire with machine guns toward the fishing boats operating in the Waha area, ultimately forcing the fishermen to leave the area.
This recent incident is just one in a string of more than 200 attacks committed by the Israeli naval forces against Palestinian fishermen and their equipment during their work along the Gaza coastline.
These attacks have occurred since the beginning of this year up until the 27th of August.
The approximately 4,500 Palestinian fishermen in Gaza have been demanding international protection, an end to the maritime blockade, and permission to import fishing tools and boat engines.
They also call for an end to the manipulation of the designated fishing zones. These demands reflect the ongoing struggle of Gaza’s fishermen to sustain their livelihoods amidst constant challenges and threats.
