DayofPal—Israeli Settlements Minister Orit Strook has called for resuming a war in Gaza “within weeks” if Hamas is not disarmed.
She also insisted on increasing to impose settlement plans in the Strip.
Speaking on Israel’s official broadcasting authority, Strook, a member of the far-right Religious Zionism party, said, “Hamas will be given a short grace period, a few weeks I believe, and after that the Israeli army will do what it does best.”
She added that “this time, it will be without hostages,” referencing Israeli captives previously freed under the ceasefire agreement, which Israel adopt as an excuse to continue bombing Gaza.
While opposing U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan, Strook claimed that “the international consensus on Gaza disarmament is the positive aspect” of the proposal.
The statements come amid ongoing efforts by hardline Israeli factions to resume military attacks aimed at displacing Palestinians and expanding settlements in the Gaza Strip.
Trump’s plan, which Israel has been slow to implement, calls for reopening the Rafah crossing with Egypt, further Israeli withdrawals within Gaza, reconstruction efforts, and the disarmament of Palestinian factions.
Israeli war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu previously opposed beginning reconstruction before Hamas’s disarmament, while Trump’s plan does not set a timeline for disarmament or specify how it should be carried out.
On October 7, 2023, Israel, with U.S. support, launched a two-year genocide resulting in approximately 72,000 Palestinian deaths, over 171,000 injuries, and the destruction of nearly 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure.
The UN estimates reconstruction costs at around $70 billion.
