DayofPal—Israeli forces carried out an extensive military operation in the northern occupied West Bank on Wednesday, storming multiple neighbourhoods in and around the city of Tubas and forcibly clearing residents from their homes.
The early-morning raid targeted the towns of Tammun, Tayasir and Aqaba, where Israeli troops expelled families and converted several Palestinian homes into temporary military posts. Roadblocks and earth mounds were erected across the area, severely restricting movement.
Local reports described Apache helicopters flying low over the city and firing toward residential buildings. Videos circulating on social media showed soldiers positioning equipment on rooftops and preventing ambulance crews from reaching the wounded.
In response to the scale of the assault, the Tubas Governorate ordered all public and private institutions, including schools, to close for the day and shift operations online.
The governor said the army was justifying the operation by claiming to be searching for wanted Palestinians, but insisted no such individuals were present. He warned that the raid could continue for several days.
Israeli Army Radio reported that three military brigades were participating in the operation. The Israeli military said in a statement that it was conducting a “wide-ranging campaign” with the Shin Bet and Border Guard to counter what it called “terrorist activities” in the West Bank, vowing to “act proactively” to prevent them.
Hamas denounced the incursion, saying it laid bare “the systematic criminality of the extremist occupation government,” which it accused of pursuing a policy aimed at crushing Palestinian presence in the West Bank.
Islamic Jihad issued a similar statement, calling the raid “a new organized aggression” intended to displace Palestinians and seize their land.
Israeli raids were also reported on Wednesday in Tulkarm, Nablus and Hebron.
Since 7 October 2023, Israel has sharply intensified operations across the West Bank. Over the past two years, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and thousands arrested.
While Israel says it targets militants, human rights groups have documented widespread detentions and killings of unarmed civilians.
Major incursions have become increasingly common. Early this year, Israeli forces launched large-scale assaults on Jenin and Tulkarm, displacing around 30,000 Palestinians and causing extensive destruction of homes and infrastructure.
