Israeli Forcse Supress Eritrean Protests, Injure More than 100
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Demonstrations outside the Eritrean embassy in Tel Aviv turned violent on Saturday, 2 September 2023  after Eritrean asylum seekers took to the streets to protest against an event organized by the embassy.

Fighting broke out after hundreds of Eritreans critical of their government approached a venue where a pro-government event was being held.

Israeli forces fired stun grenades and tear gas to break up the clashes, injuring at least 140 people, eight of whom were in serious condition and detaining 39 others.

According to AP, the protesters threw “chunks of sidewalk, batteries, and rocks” at the Israeli military, many of whom were wearing riot gear and riding horses.

Videos posted to social media showed street battles between police and groups of Eritrean nationals.

Recently, ‘Israel’ has been witnessing continuous demonstrations, the most significant of which are the weekly demonstrations against the racist policies of the far-right government and Judicial reforms.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is leading the most right-wing and religious government Israel has had since its occupation of Palestine, with Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich — two far-right politicians known for racist and Jewish supremacist rhetoric — serving as senior ministers.

Netanyahu’s fanatics ministers including Ben-Gvir and Smotrich adopt racist measures against the Palestinian people. These measures included filed executions, home demolitions, and suppressive measures against Palestinian detainees.
