Palestinian citizens of Masaffer Yatta woke up Monday, October 2nd, 2023, to loud noises of Israeli bulldozers razing and demolishing a bunch of agricultural rooms in Hebron’s town of Yatta.
Local sources reported that Israeli settlers hailed from “Karmel” settlement, which is built on the lands and properties of Palestinians, stormed the Al-Martaba area in Ein Al-Baida, east of Masaffer Yatta, while being guarded by heavily-armed soldiers, and started to demolish Palestinians-owned properties, including agricultural rooms belonging to the citizen Ghassan Da’ajna.
In the same town, Israeli occupation forces raided Yatta’s villages of Susiya and Mneizel, and set up tightened checkpoints on the roads leading to their entrances, hindering the movement of the citizens and blocking their way back.
The West Bank has witnessed a noticeable spike in settlers’ attacks and rampages against Palestinians in Masaffer Yatta. According to the Colonialism and Wall-Resistance Commission, 142 settlers’ attacks were documented on Palestinians and their properties only in August, resulting in light and moderate injuries to Palestinians and damage to their properties.
Although Israel’s policy of demolishing Palestinians’ homes, structures, and properties is widely criticized by the international community, and human rights organizations, Israeli forces continue to crack down on them on a daily basis aiming to drive citizens out of their lands in favour of expanding colonial settlements.
