Israeli occupation forces on Wednesday killed nearly 7,000 egg-laying chickens and demolished a poultry farm in the village of Umm al-Rihan, southwest of Jenin, located behind Israel’s separation wall near the town of Ya’bad.
The farm’s owner, Jamal Zeid, said that Israeli troops stormed the site at dawn, electrocuting thousands of chickens before bulldozing the farm to the ground.
Zeid added the occupation army justified the demolition by claiming the farm lacked construction permits, even though it was built about 30 years ago and had previously received demolition warnings. He estimated his financial losses at nearly 500,000 shekels (around $130,000).
The incident comes amid an escalation of Israeli military and settler violations across the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem. According to data from the Palestinian Information Center Mu’ta, Israeli forces and settlers committed 6,870 violations in October alone.
The report documented the killing of 14 Palestinians and the injury of 301 others in various attacks. It also recorded 659 arrests and 133 cases of temporary detention.
Israeli forces carried out 1,507 incursions and 1,196 home raids, in addition to 1,039 checkpoint restrictions and 353 closures of roads and areas.
Throughout October, Israeli forces demolished 127 homes and destroyed or damaged 211 Palestinian properties, while Mu’ta documented 161 cases of confiscation, 67 settlement expansion activities, and 637 settler assaults across the West Bank.
The demolition of Zeid’s poultry farm, rights groups say, underscores Israel’s ongoing policy of targeting Palestinian livelihoods and food sources under the pretext of permit violations — part of a broader campaign to pressure residents in Area C and communities behind the separation wall.
