Israeli occupation forces demolished on Monday, September 18, 2023, a Palestinian house under construction in the village of Al-Jiftlik, located north of the city of Jericho.
Local sources reported that Israeli forces, accompanied by a military bulldozer, entered Al-Jiftlik and proceeded to demolish a house that was under construction, owned by the Palestinian citizen Abdelrahim Bani Odeh.
The reason cited for the demolition was allegedly the lack of a building permit.
Furthermore, the Israeli forces prevented Palestinians from approaching the demolition site.
Ongoing Policy of Displacement
Demolitions of Palestinian homes and structures by Israeli authorities have long been a source of tension in the occupied territories.
Palestinians argue that the Israeli permitting process is difficult to navigate and often biased against them, leaving many homes vulnerable to demolition.
In August 2023, Israeli occupation forces carried out 36 demolitions of homes and commercial structures in the West Bank, in addition to issuing 106 demolition, construction halt, and eviction notices, citing unlicensed construction or military training exercises, according to the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission
