Israeli occupation forces closed the entrances to the village of Berqah, east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, and declared it a closed military zone on Saturday, August 5, 2023,
This action came after an Israeli settler killed a Palestinian youth in the village, sparking the Palestinians’ anger and triggering confrontations.
Qusai Ma’atan, 19, was fatally shot in the neck by an Israeli settler in the West Bank town of Burqa, east of occupied Ramallah.
The Israeli military imposed a siege on the village “out of fear” of confrontations between the locals and the settlers following Ma’atan’s death.
Palestinian masses participated on Saturday in the funeral procession of Ma’atan. The villagers burnt two settlers’ cars.
Moreover, Israeli settlers attempted to seize land in the village to establish a “ranch settlement, but the villagers stood in defense and tried to expel them.
According to Palestinian figures, Israeli occupation forces and settlers have killed 214 Palestinians across occupied Palestine since the start of 2023.
