Israeli occupation forcea closed on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron, south of the West Bank, until evening today, citing Jewish holidays.
The director of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, Ghassan al-Rajabi, stated that the Israeli occupation closed the mosque from 10:00 PM yesterday until 10:00 PM today, preventing the call to prayer and the entry of worshippers.
Al-Rajabi pointed out that the occupation opened the Ibrahimi Mosque to Jewish settlers for their religious rituals.
He considered the closure a blatant violation of the freedom of worship, emphasizing that the mosque is a purely Islamic endowment, and Jews have no right to it.
The occupation aims to empty the mosque of worshippers through repressive and arbitrary measures against them, closing electronic gates, preventing the call to prayer, obstructing movement at military checkpoints, and detaining them.
In 1994, the Israeli occupation have divided the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron into two sections, one for Muslims and the other for Jews, following the killing of 29 Muslims during their Fajr prayer on February 25th of that year by an Israeli settler.
