DaysofPal- The Israeli government is considering a bill to formally annul the 1993 Oslo Accords, signaling an intensified effort by the right wing to resolve the conflict through direct political and territorial maneuvers. While the occupation continues to dismantle the agreement in practice through relentless settlement expansion and military dominance in the West Bank, this legislative push seeks to end the framework that established the Palestinian Authority officially.

Hebrew media outlets reported that Israel’s Ministerial Committee for Legislation is scheduled to discuss a bill on Sunday aimed at canceling the Oslo Accords, which established the foundations for the Palestinian Authority as a transitional framework intended to lead toward the creation of a Palestinian state.

According to Israel’s Channel 12, the bill was introduced by Deputy Knesset Speaker Limor Son Har-Melech, a member of the far-right camp. Channel 7 reported that the lawmaker argues the Oslo agreements “brought not peace but terrorism,” adding that “the time has come for national correction.”

In a post published on the social media platform X, Har-Melech stated: “We promised to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state, and now the time has come to encourage settlement in Areas A and B and cancel the disastrous Oslo Accords.”

She added that the ministerial committee would discuss two separate proposals to revoke the agreement, describing the move as “the first and necessary step to correct the entire situation.”

The proposal comes at a time of accelerating annexation plans and settlement expansion across the occupied West Bank, amid Palestinian warnings that Israel has already effectively abandoned its political and security obligations under the Oslo framework.

Palestinian officials and political factions argue that Israel has entrenched military dominance over Palestinian Authority areas, expanded settlements, and intensified near-daily military raids into Palestinian cities and refugee camps.

Multiple reports have indicated that successive Israeli governments, particularly the current far-right coalition, have spent recent years dismantling the foundations of the Oslo process through the legalization of settlement outposts and the promotion of plans to annex large parts of the West Bank.

The Oslo Accords, formally known as the “Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements,” called for the establishment of a temporary Palestinian self-governing authority leading to a final settlement within five years. The agreement envisioned negotiations over core issues, including Jerusalem, refugees, borders, and settlements.

The accord was signed in the Norwegian capital of Oslo on September 13, 1993, between Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres under the sponsorship of U.S. President Bill Clinton.

More than three decades after the signing of the agreement, Palestinian political forces maintain that Israeli occupation forces used the transitional period to expand the settlement project and impose realities on the ground that obstructed the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. At the same time, calls within Israel’s far right are growing louder for the formal abandonment of the accords and the termination of any political process based on the two-state solution.
