DaysofPal– Israeli air strikes on residential areas in Gaza City are part of a deliberate and continuous campaign aimed at making life unbearable for civilians, according to Tamara Alrifai, spokesperson for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
Speaking to Al Jazeera following the latest wave of Israeli bombardment, Alrifai said the attacks were “part of an ongoing, incessant campaign to raze to the ground entire neighborhoods and buildings and to wipe out entire families and individual lives.”
The latest strikes reportedly hit areas in proximity to UNRWA offices in Gaza City, further endangering the lives of humanitarian staff and displaced families sheltering nearby.
Alrifai painted a grim picture of the humanitarian situation, stating that nearly 90 percent of Gaza has become unlivable due to relentless destruction and forced displacement that have persisted daily and weekly since the beginning of the conflict.
“What we have witnessed for now almost 700 days is widespread killing, forced displacement, and making conditions for survival impossible,” she said.
The UN official highlighted the multifaceted impact of the Israeli campaign, pointing to the absence of safe zones, the widespread hunger—with famine officially declared in parts of Gaza—and the dangers posed by debris, uncollected waste, and unexploded ordnance across the Strip.
“Whether it’s depriving them of safety, nowhere is safe in Gaza; depriving them of food, or making the environment impossible for survival, the result is the same: the collapse of life itself,” Alrifai warned.
Her comments echo growing international concern over the scale and intensity of destruction in Gaza, as humanitarian agencies continue to struggle to operate amid ongoing attacks and access restrictions.
