DayofPal– The Israeli army stormed school-turned shelter Khalil Oweida in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza, early Sunday, and started to fire indiscriminately at displaced civilians inside it.
Local sources reported that over 15 civilians were reportedly killed and multiple others injured after the Israeli forces intensively attacked the school at dawn in a bid for forcing the displaced people out as part of its “ethnic cleansing campaign.”
Witnesses reported that the injured residents were left on the ground without access to medical treatment as ambulances and medical personnel were reportedly unable to reach the scene because the Israeli tanks were surrounding the area.
Local residents stated that all men inside the school were abducted by the Israeli forces to unknown destination. Families who had taken refuge in the school were forcibly removed, leaving them without shelter amid the relentless carpet bombing.
The sudden attack has drawn widespread condemnation from local organizations, which have called for immediate international intervention to protect civilians in Gaza.
Khalil Oweida School had been a designated refuge for displaced individuals in Beit Hanoun, an area that has been heavily impacted by Israeli airstrikes and ground operations.
North Gaza, including Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun, and Jabaliya, has been under relentless Israeli assaults and military siege since October 5, 2024. The Israeli military is implementing the “Generals’ Plan,” which aims to ethnically cleanse the area of its Palestinian population.
