Gaza City – September 20, 2025 – Israeli forces have intensified their military operations across Gaza City, unleashing a surge of air raids that have left dozens of civilians trapped beneath collapsed homes, according to local reports.
From Nuseirat, we can see huge plumes of smoke from destroyed areas in Gaza City – in the Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood and the Shati refugee camp.
Three residential homes were struck in Shati camp, where members of Gaza’s Civil Defence said they remain unable to retrieve bodies or reach survivors buried under the rubble. “The destruction is overwhelming, and our crews lack the resources to dig people out,” one rescuer said.
Escalating offensive
The latest bombardments come amid an intensifying Israeli ground advance. Troops are reported to be moving slowly and cautiously into the city, shielded by heavy fire from infantry units, fighter jets, drones, and quadcopters.
Despite mass displacement over the past weeks, thousands of residents remain trapped in Gaza City. Many lack the means to pay for transport to southern areas, while others say there is simply nowhere safe to go.
Mounting humanitarian toll
The escalation compounds what aid groups describe as a total humanitarian collapse in the north of the enclave. Food, water, and medical supplies remain critically scarce, while repeated attacks on rescue workers have made recovery efforts perilous.
