DaysofPal- Israeli authorities have canceled scheduled legal visits to Palestinian prisoners and barred detainees’ families from attending hearings at Ofer Military Court, according to a joint statement issued on Monday by the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club.
The statement said that lawyers were informed that all visits planned for Monday had been canceled due to what Israeli authorities described as the “current security situation.”
It added that families of Palestinian detainees would also be prohibited from attending court sessions at Ofer Military Court, one of the main facilities used to process cases involving Palestinians held by Israel.
According to the statement, court proceedings will be limited to detention-extension hearings and sessions involving administrative detainees, who are held without charge or trial under renewable detention orders.
The Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups criticized the measures, viewing them as further restrictions on detainees’ access to legal representation and family contact.
Approximately 9,500 Palestinian prisoners are currently being held in Israeli prisons, including women and children. Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations have documented widespread starvation, torture, and severe medical neglect within the prison system. According to these reports, dozens of detainees have died in custody.
