DaysofPal- Israeli authorities closed all crossings leading to the Gaza Strip on Sunday evening, including the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings, citing security measures adopted in response to recent Iranian missile attacks on Israel.
The Israeli military body responsible for coordinating government activities in the Palestinian territories (COGAT) announced that the closure was based on security assessments conducted after the latest Iranian attacks. According to the agency, the decision will remain in effect “until further notice” and applies to all crossings serving the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, COGAT claimed that the closure would not affect the humanitarian situation in Gaza. It further asserted that the volume of food aid that had entered the territory since the ceasefire came into effect exceeded the population’s nutritional needs according to standards and methodologies used by the United Nations.
The agency added that it would continue coordinating with international organizations and relevant stakeholders and would provide regular updates should the security situation change.
The decision comes nearly eight months after the ceasefire agreement entered into force in October 2025. Gaza continues to face severe humanitarian challenges, with Israel maintaining restrictions that have complicated the entry of aid into the territory.
According to United Nations assessments, the enclave is experiencing acute shortages of food, clean drinking water, healthcare services, medical supplies, and fuel. Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians remain in temporary shelters, where living conditions continue to be difficult.
International humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that any prolonged disruption to aid deliveries through Gaza’s crossings could trigger a significant deterioration in humanitarian conditions.
Currently, the majority of Gaza’s approximately 2.3 million residents remain heavily dependent on external assistance to meet their basic daily needs.
