DaysofPal- The Israeli military said it has carried out more than 200 airstrikes across the Gaza Strip over the past 48 hours, targeting what it described as “terrorist infrastructure,” including weapons depots, sniper and anti-tank positions, and tunnel shafts.
Now in its 70th day since renewed operations started, the most recent round of attacks represents a dramatic uptick in the Israeli military campaign.
According to Palestinian medical and local sources, the strikes have resulted in a devastating toll on civilians, with dozens killed, including children. One of the deadliest incidents occurred at dawn on Monday, when Israeli warplanes bombed the Fahmi al-Jarjawi school in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City. The school was sheltering displaced families when it was struck, killing at least 36 people, including six children.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as a “massacre,” with charred bodies and burned children pulled from the rubble. “What happened in Al-Daraj was not a normal raid,” said one resident.
“It was one of the most horrific massacres committed by the Israeli occupation army since the beginning of this war.”
The wounded were rushed to Al-Shifa and Al-Maamdani hospitals, where doctors are struggling to treat patients under dire conditions due to shortages of medicine, electricity, and equipment.
In another deadly incident in Jabalia al-Balad in northern Gaza, an Israeli airstrike leveled a family home, killing 19 people. Social media circulated harrowing footage of a young girl, Ward Jalal Sheikh Khalil, emerging from the flames, crying for help.
Her mother and six siblings were killed in the attack. Her father, critically wounded, remains in intensive care.
The airstrikes continued throughout Monday, with reports of drone attacks striking a kindergarten sheltering displaced civilians in the Maghazi camp in central Gaza, killing at least one and injuring others.
On Sunday alone, the Gaza Health Ministry reported at least 32 deaths due to Israeli bombardment, with strikes hitting locations across the coastal enclave, from Beit Lahiya in the north to Khan Younis in the south.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip, leaving more than 175,000 Palestinians dead and injured – mostly children and women – and more than 11,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
