Israeli occupation forces IOF killed 55 Palestinians in May 2023, including 34 in the Gaza Strip, according to data collected by Days of Palestine DOP.
May has witnessed a steep rise in Israeli violence against Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Jerusalem.
With about 56 families bidding farewell to their loved ones killed by Israel, May was seen as the bloodiest month since the start of 2023.
According to DOP data, the Israeli forces killed 34 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, 10 in Nablus, 6 in Jenin, 3 in Tulkarm, and one in each Hebron, Jericho, and the 1948-occupied lands.
Children
Eight Palestinian children fell victim to Israeli violence in May, including six massacred by Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.
On May 9, Israeli warplanes launched a 5-day aggression in the Gaza Strip, killing senior leaders of the Islamic Jihad movement. The onslaught ended with 33 Palestinians, including six children killed by Israeli deadly raids.
Layan Mdoukh, Ali Izz El-Din, Mayr Izz El-Din, Hajar Al-Buhtini, Eman Adas, and Yazan Elyan were murdered by the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.
Meanwhile, the Israeli forces shot dead the 17-year-old Palestinian child Jibril Al-Lada during a military raid on Aqabat Jaber camp in the occupied West Bank city of Jericho.
Gaza Strip
with 33 Palestinians murdered by Israeli airstrikes in only five days, Palestinians in Gaza went through one of the deadliest months of May.
Marked as the month of Nakba, May is a time for Israel to escalate violence against Palestinian families and civilians.
Coinciding with the second anniversary of the 2021 Israeli aggression on Gaza, Israeli warplanes started a new course of violent attacks in May 2023.
The onslaught started on Tuesday, May 9, when Israel assassinated 15 Palestinians, including three commanders of the Islamic Jihad resistance movement.
It ended on May 13 and resulted in the killing of 33 Palestinians including 6 children and four women and injured about 190 others. Two elderlies were among the victims too.
West Bank, Jerusalem
2023 has seen a steep rise in Israeli incursions into the occupied West Bank cities, Jenin and Nablus in particular.
During the deadly raids, Israeli forces arrest, kill, or/and injure Palestinian civilians. Either way, West Bank families remain terrorized.
The Israeli deadly raids in the West Bank cold-bloodedly killed 22 Palestinians, including 10 in Nablus and 6 others in Jenin.
Khader Adnan
Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan, 46, a father of 9 children, was found dead in Israeli cells after 86 days of hunger strike on May 2, 2023.
Adnan began an open-ended hunger strike following his arrest by Israeli occupation forces earlier in February 2023 to protest against administrative detention.
Held multiple times in administrative detention, Adnan went through five hunger strikes in 2004, 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021, and 2023.
Adnan’s death triggered Palestinian, Arab, and International anger. Several projectiles were fired from Gaza in response to Adnan’s death.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Israeli occupation forces and settlers have killed 162 Palestinians so far in 2023.
