The Government Media Office in Gaza said that the Israeli occupation is deliberately intensifying the siege on 1.7 million Palestinian civilians, forcing them into a confined area that constitutes less than one-tenth of the Gaza Strip.
In a statement received by Days of Palestine, the Government Media Office condemned the Israeli military’s continued crimes against civilians in Gaza, including forced displacement and the coerced migration of over 1.7 million Palestinians.
The office asserted that Israeli forces have systematically compelled civilians to flee their homes under the threat of death, bombardment, and the use of internationally prohibited weapons.
The statement emphasized that Israel is executing a deliberate and organized plan to suffocate civilians and the entire Palestinian society in Gaza by compressing them into an increasingly shrinking space, now less than a tenth of the total area of the Gaza Strip.
The Government Media Office detailed the “criminal” sequence followed by the Israeli military in this plan to squeeze 1.7 million Palestinian civilians into a mere fraction of Gaza’s territory:
Early November 2023: Israel declared the southern region as a safe humanitarian zone covering 230 square kilometers, roughly 63% of Gaza’s total area, including agricultural, commercial, and residential areas.
Early December 2023: Following the invasion of Khan Yunis, Israel reduced the so-called safe zone to 140 square kilometers, representing 38.3% of Gaza’s area.
Early May 2024: The safe zone was further reduced to 79 square kilometers, or 20% of Gaza’s area.
Mid-June 2024: The area was again reduced to 60 square kilometers, or 16.4% of the territory.
Early August 2024: The area was reduced to 40 square kilometers, or 10.9% of Gaza.
7. Mid-August 2024: The zone was further reduced to 36 square kilometers, now only 9.5% of Gaza’s total area.
The statement highlighted that Israel does not consider Gaza City and the northern region of Gaza as part of the so-called safe zones, despite the presence of 700,000 civilians in these areas.
The Government Media Office strongly condemned the ongoing forced displacement of civilians, stating that the deliberate confinement of Palestinians to such a small and uninhabitable area is a clear indication of Israel’s intent to choke the population of Gaza.
The office held both Israel and the U.S. administration fully responsible for the catastrophic consequences of these ongoing crimes, which aim to suffocate Gaza’s civilians by cramming them into areas unfit for human habitation due to the lack of basic life necessities.
The statement concluded by calling on the international community, all global organizations, and free nations worldwide to pressure Israel and the U.S. to halt the campaign of genocide and crimes against humanity being perpetrated by the Israeli military against Gaza’s civilians.
