Israel Applying “Gaza Playbook” in Lebanon

DayofPal—A humanitarian organization has warned that Israel is replicating the tactics used in Gaza during its latest military offensive in Lebanon.

According to the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), recent Israeli airstrikes and evacuation orders issued across southern Lebanon and parts of the capital have created widespread fear among civilians and forced thousands to flee their homes.

MAP’s chief executive, Steve Cutts, said the developments suggest that the same military strategy used in Gaza is now being applied in Lebanon.

He warned that the campaign includes tactics such as collective punishment, mass displacement, and psychological pressure on civilian populations.

The escalation began earlier this week after the Lebanese group Hezbollah launched rockets toward Israel. The attack was described as retaliation for a joint U.S.–Israeli strike on Iran and the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Following the exchange of fire, Israeli forces expanded their attacks across Lebanon.

On Wednesday, the Israeli military ordered residents across southern Lebanon to evacuate their homes, prompting tens of thousands of people to flee the region under threat of bombardment.

A day later, the army issued another evacuation order for the southern suburbs of Beirut, particularly the densely populated area of Dahiyeh.

Although Israel has previously warned residents to leave specific buildings there, it was the first time an evacuation order was issued for the entire district.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich incited that Dahiyeh could face destruction similar to areas of Gaza that have been heavily bombed during the war.

“Very soon, Dahiyeh will resemble Khan Younis,” he said, referring to the southern Gaza city that has been widely devastated by Israeli military operations.

Scenes in Beirut also reflected the growing humanitarian crisis. Displaced families gathered along the city’s waterfront and public spaces, carrying belongings, mattresses, and blankets as they searched for shelter.

Many families have reportedly been forced to sleep outdoors as available shelters struggle to accommodate the growing number of displaced people.

The Israeli military stated that its forces had targeted more than 320 locations across Lebanon since the start of the latest offensive.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 217 people have been killed and 798 others wounded in Israeli strikes since Monday.

The Israeli army also reported that more than 300,000 Lebanese residents have been displaced during the current escalation.

Humanitarian groups say the pattern of displacement orders and repeated bombardments closely resembles the strategy used in Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been forced to move multiple times throughout the war.

Aid organizations warn that if the war continues to escalate, Lebanon could face a humanitarian crisis similar to the one unfolding in the Gaza Strip, with civilians bearing the heaviest cost of the fighting.
