DaysofPal- The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) killed a journalist and three paramedics on Monday evening in an Israeli airstrike that deliberately targeted a medical rescue team operating in the Al-Mahatta area on Yafa Street, in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of eastern Gaza City.
Local sources confirmed the identities of the victims: paramedics Hussein Muhaysin, Baraa Afaneh, and Raed Al-Attar, along with journalist Moamen Abu Ouf, who was accompanying the team to document their efforts to rescue the wounded.
This deadly attack marks another egregious violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees the neutrality and protection of medical personnel and journalists in conflict zones. It underscores the growing pattern of Israeli assaults on humanitarian workers across the Gaza Strip.
The incident follows the notorious March 23 massacre, where Israeli forces targeted a humanitarian convoy in the Al-Hashashin area east of Rafah. That convoy, consisting of five ambulances, civil defense vehicles, and a United Nations vehicle, came under heavy Israeli fire, resulting in the deaths of 15 people—including eight Palestinian Red Crescent workers, five civil defense personnel, and one UN staff member. The victims were hastily buried in a mass grave due to the inaccessibility of morgues and cemeteries amid the ongoing bombardment.
International health and humanitarian organizations have labeled the March 23 attack as “the deadliest assault on medical workers in over a decade.”
The killing of medical teams and media professionals comes amid Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza, now entering its 613th consecutive day. Relentless aerial and ground operations have resulted in tens of thousands of civilian casualties and widespread destruction. Entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, and humanitarian infrastructure—hospitals, clinics, and shelters—has been systematically targeted.
Global bodies and rights groups continue to sound the alarm over Israel’s escalating attacks on civilian and humanitarian institutions, which many legal experts argue may constitute war crimes under international law.
Despite mounting international condemnation, the Israeli military campaign proceeds unabated, leaving Gaza’s civilian population, humanitarian workers, and press corps in ever-deepening peril.
