A one-week-old infant died on Saturday due to the biting cold sweeping across the Gaza Strip, in yet another heartbreaking toll of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Local sources confirmed that the baby, Mahmoud Al-Aqra, from Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, succumbed to severe cold weather conditions.
Gaza has been experiencing relentless cold fronts and harsh winter storms in recent weeks, contributing to the deaths of dozens of children. Nearly 53,000 tents sheltering displaced families have been flooded or damaged, leaving thousands exposed to freezing temperatures.
The humanitarian disaster continues to worsen as Israel fails to comply with the ceasefire agreement and humanitarian protocol—particularly in allowing the entry of shelter materials, tents, and mobile housing units needed to protect civilians from the extreme weather.
Residents of Gaza are enduring these dire conditions in the aftermath of a devastating two-year war that left over 70,000 people dead, more than 171,000 injured, and caused widespread destruction to nearly 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
