DaysofPal- Hamas has welcomed Italy’s decision to suspend its military cooperation agreement with Israel, describing the move as a significant step in increasing international pressure and a means to deter Israeli ongoing violations in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon.
In an official statement, Hamas said the Italian decision represents progress toward greater international isolation of Israel. It added that such measures could help curb escalation and encourage stronger positions from the international community regarding developments in the region.
The group called on other countries to adopt similar actions, including suspending military and security cooperation with Israel. It also urged the use of diplomatic and economic tools to push for an end to military operations and to ensure respect for international humanitarian law.
Hamas further stated that the growing number of international initiatives, whether by governments or organizations, reflects rising global concern over continued tensions in the Middle East and their wide-ranging humanitarian and security consequences.
Earlier on the same day, the Italian government announced the suspension of the automatic renewal of its defense cooperation agreement with Israel. The agreement had included provisions for military equipment exchanges and collaboration in technological fields.
This development comes at a time of increasing international calls to reduce tensions and create space for political solutions that could contribute to stability, particularly given the interconnected nature of regional crises and their broader impact on international peace and security.
Israeli authorities have yet to issue a detailed official response regarding the Italian decision, while international observers continue to assess its potential impact on bilateral relations and regional dynamics.
