DaysofPal – Senior Hamas official Ismail Ridwan on Sunday urged mediators to pressure Israel to reopen the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza to allow the entry of urgent humanitarian aid.
In remarks to the media, Ridwan said that Hamas and other Palestinian resistance factions remain committed to upholding the ceasefire agreement, stressing that the movement “fully supports the implementation of the truce.”
He accused Israel of continuing its repeated violations of the ceasefire despite clear provisions calling for an end to attacks on civilians. According to figures cited by Al Jazeera, 241 Palestinians have been killed since the truce was signed.
Ridwan warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly, with famine deepening and medical supplies running dangerously low. He noted that only 150 to 200 aid trucks are entering Gaza daily, far short of the 600 agreed upon under the ceasefire terms.
He added that the resistance is eager to resolve the issue of the bodies of captured Israeli soldiers as quickly as possible and that Hamas has informed mediators of its readiness to withdraw fighters from the “yellow zone” as part of ongoing humanitarian understandings.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has continued a devastating military campaign in Gaza, backed by the United States and several European countries.
The offensive has involved mass killings, starvation tactics, destruction, displacement, and mass arrests, in defiance of international appeals and rulings by the International Court of Justice demanding a halt to the assault.
The ongoing aggression has left more than 239,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, the vast majority women and children. Over 11,000 remain missing, and hundreds of thousands are displaced, many facing acute famine and disease amid the widespread destruction of Gaza’s cities and infrastructure.
