DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement stated on Wednesday that Israeli occupation is intensifying a religious war against the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, following repeated incursions by Israeli settlers into its courtyards.
Haroun Nasser al-Din, a member of Hamas’s political bureau and head of its Jerusalem affairs office, said that the desecration of Al-Aqsa’s courtyards by settler groups represents a deepening of the religious war waged by the occupation.
In a press statement sent to Sanad News Agency, Nasser al-Din said the incursions are a continuation of the occupation’s attempts to entrench a project of Judaization and temporal and spatial division and to impose Talmudic rituals in the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He argued that the escalating settler visits reveal the extent of extremism, hatred, and plotting harbored by the settlers against Al-Aqsa Mosque and the city of Jerusalem, adding that they also reflect the arrogance of the Israeli government, which he said sponsors these actions.
Nasser al-Din stressed that Al-Aqsa Mosque is an exclusively Islamic right, insisting that “no attempt to erase its identity or change its features will succeed.”
He held the Israeli occupation “fully responsible for the consequences of these policies and violations.”
The Hamas official called on Palestinians in Jerusalem, inside Israeli occupation and in all areas of friction, to mobilize and maintain a strong presence in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa to confront the incursions.
He also urged the Arab and Islamic nations to “rise in support of Al-Aqsa and to reject the occupation’s aggression against the land, the people and the holy sites.”
Earlier on Wednesday, groups of Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa compound and performed Talmudic rituals, including mass prostration, in the courtyards, coinciding with Israel’s celebration of its Independence Day, which Palestinians mark as the anniversary of the Nakba (catastrophe).
On Tuesday, 152 settlers stormed the courtyards of the mosque, raised the Israeli flag and performed provocative Talmudic rituals under heavy protection from Israeli forces, according to local Jerusalem sources.
