DaysofPal-The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has reiterated its full commitment to the recently brokered ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the months-long war in Gaza, emphasizing that it is ready to move forward with efforts to protect civilians and rebuild the war-ravaged enclave.
In a televised statement, Zahir Jabbarin, Hamas’s leader in the occupied West Bank, confirmed that the movement “remains committed to the implementation of the agreement, which guarantees the cessation of war, the protection of our people from attacks, and the commencement of reconstruction.”
Jabbarin firmly rejected any form of international tutelage or external administration over Gaza, stating, “We do not accept any international guardianship over our people. The Palestinian people have the right to govern themselves and determine their own future.”
He underscored that the current moment is a crucial test for the international community, urging world powers to take meaningful steps toward peace by recognizing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
“Those who truly want peace in this region must act now,” Jabbarin said.
“The international community must ensure the creation of the State of Palestine, resolve the issue of prisoners, and secure the release of all remaining detainees without further bloodshed.” He added.
The ceasefire deal, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, was reached after intensive negotiations in Cairo and took effect on October 10, following the Israeli approval.
The agreement reportedly includes provisions for a mutual cessation of hostilities, gradual prisoner exchanges, the entry of humanitarian aid, and steps toward Gaza’s reconstruction.
According to sources close to the talks, the ceasefire also outlines a framework for long-term stability, contingent on both parties adhering to the truce and international guarantees ensuring that the Israeli occupation halts its military operations in the enclave.
The statement from Hamas comes amid cautious optimism among Gaza’s residents, who have endured nearly two years of relentless bombardment, mass displacement, and humanitarian collapse. Reconstruction efforts, however, remain hindered by the continued blockade and restrictions on materials entering the Strip.
Regional mediators have welcomed Hamas’s renewed commitment, with Egyptian officials saying the next phase will focus on sustaining the truce, facilitating prisoner exchanges, and ensuring that reconstruction funds are delivered directly to support Gaza’s devastated civilian infrastructure.
