DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement said on Monday that Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons are being subjected to a “grave and comprehensive humanitarian crime,” noting that the Israeli occupation forces are committing systematic abuse, torture, and degrading detention conditions against Palestinian prisoners.
In a statement obtained by Sanad News Agency, Hamas said prisoners are enduring harsh and violent treatment inside Israeli jails and urged the international community to intervene urgently to stop the ongoing Israeli violations.
The movement referred to video footage recently broadcast by Israeli media showing assaults on detainees, saying the scenes reflect “blatant contempt for human dignity and a clear violation of international laws and conventions.”
“Prisoners today are not only exposed to violations, but to an outright humanitarian crime being committed behind prison walls,” the statement said.
Hamas criticized the international silence regarding the treatment of Palestinian prisoners, particularly at a time when it said Israeli officials, media figures, and institutions openly justify or boast about practices that should “shock the human conscience.”
According to Hamas, the number of Palestinians held in Israeli custody has surpassed 9,300, including thousands detained under administrative detention without charge or trial, a practice the movement said constitutes a serious breach of fundamental justice standards.
The statement accused Israeli prison authorities of subjecting detainees to physical and psychological abuse, medical neglect, denial of family visits, and policies of deprivation and starvation.
Hamas warned that such measures pose serious risks to prisoners’ health and lives.
Hamas called on the United Nations, its affiliated agencies, and international human rights and humanitarian organizations to move beyond the silence and take concrete steps to stop the alleged abuses and hold Israeli officials accountable.
The movement also demanded that the Israeli occupation be forced to comply with the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law and to grant international monitoring bodies unrestricted access to detention facilities to assess conditions firsthand.
In addition, Hamas appealed to Arab, Islamic, and international organizations and activists to launch broad solidarity campaigns in support of Palestinian prisoners and increase pressure on relevant parties.
It renewed its call for the release of detainees, stressing that “Palestinian prisoners are not statistics, but human beings entitled to rights, life, and dignity.”
In recent days, Israeli media have aired footage showing prison raids in which forces entered detainees’ cells, reportedly using police dogs, restraints, and tear gas during the operations.
