DaysofPal – Khalil al-Hayya, senior leader of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, said Sunday that the movement had engaged in “difficult negotiations” and demonstrated “every possible flexibility” without compromising the core rights of the Palestinian people.
In a televised speech, al-Hayya stated that Hamas had seriously engaged with mediators at all stages of the ceasefire talks, particularly during the latest round, and that “clear progress” had been made.
“There was substantial agreement on the issues of Israeli withdrawal, the release of prisoners, and the entry of humanitarian aid,” he said.
However, he accused Israel of abruptly withdrawing from the negotiations, aligning itself with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, and intentionally obstructing the peace process. “What happened was a calculated maneuver aimed at burning time and escalating genocide,” al-Hayya warned.
“This is genocide,” he declared, calling on the international community to act urgently.
Addressing the Arab and Islamic world, al-Hayya expressed deep frustration with what he described as a collective failure to confront the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
“Our people are being slaughtered and starved in unimaginable ways,” he said. “No one in Gaza understands how such a powerful and proud nation can remain paralyzed in the face of war, famine, and mass graves.”
He urged immediate and practical steps to break the Israeli blockade and deliver food and medicine to women and children, while demanding a complete severance of ties with Israel.
Al-Hayya concluded by calling on the masses across the region, especially in neighboring countries, to express their outrage “by all possible means” and stand against what he called Israel’s campaign of extermination.
