DaysofPal- Hamas has strongly denounced the ongoing Israeli assault on the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, describing it as an “unprecedented crime against humanity.”
The hospital, one of the last remaining operational medical facilities in the besieged region, has been under relentless attack, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In a statement issued late Sunday, the Palestinian group accused the Israeli military of continuing its brutal campaign in the northern Gaza Strip, specifically targeting areas such as Jabalia, its refugee camp, and Beit Lahiya. The attacks, it said, have indiscriminately struck shelters, schools, and particularly the Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of the last partially functioning medical facilities in the besieged region.
Hamas also said threats were made to forcefully remove patients, the injured, and displaced people from the hospital, calling it “a crime of ethnic cleansing and forced displacement” amid international silence and inaction.
The group has urged governments and organizations around the world, as well as Arab and Islamic countries, to act right now to defend holy sites, aid the Palestinian people, and free their land from occupation. The group’s plea comes amid what it describes as “international silence and inaction” in the face of these atrocities.
The hospital, which provides care for more than 400,000 people, has been the direct target of Israeli gunfire and airstrikes, seriously damaging its facilities, including the neonatal unit and children’s ward. The hospital’s director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safieh, has highlighted the unprecedented nature of the attack, stating that the hospital is being deliberately targeted, with shells and gunfire penetrating its walls and damaging several departments.
On Sunday, the Israeli military ordered the closure and evacuation of the hospital, forcing medical staff to scramble to find a way to safely relocate hundreds of patients and staff.
The Israeli military operation in northern Gaza has been ongoing for over two and a half months, displacing thousands and intensifying the humanitarian crisis. The targeting of medical facilities, such as Kamal Adwan Hospital, is a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which protects medical facilities, their personnel, and vehicles under the Geneva Convention.
