DaysofPal- Hamas Movement said that the liberation of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons will remain at the top of the national movement’s priorities and urged the international community to intervene urgently and immediately to stop the horrific violations against them, especially in light of Israel’s move to approve a law permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners.
In a statement issued to mark Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, observed annually on April 17, Hamas said the day comes amid a tragic reality for around 9,500 Palestinians held in Israeli jails, including 300 children and 84 women.
The movement also highlighted the plight of about 1,500 detainees from the Gaza Strip, who it says have been held in secret facilities since October 7, 2023, and subjected to severe physical and psychological torture and enforced disappearance.
Hamas stressed that the push by the Israeli fascist government to pass an execution law for prisoners constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
This law once again exposes the racist nature of the occupation and the ugliness of its crimes, which will not be erased by time and whose perpetrators will not escape punishment, the statement said.
The movement issued an urgent appeal to the United Nations, the UN Human Rights Council, and international organizations to assume their responsibilities, enable investigative committees to visit Israeli prisons, and examine the conditions of detainees.
Hamas held Israel fully responsible for the lives of those it described as abducted and forcibly disappeared and condemned the international silence over “deliberate killing” and abuses against them.
In concluding its statement, Hamas praised the global popular mobilization in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners and called on the Palestinian people, the Arab world, and free people everywhere to make April 17 an international day of support for the just cause of the prisoners.
The movement reaffirmed to all male and female detainees that it will spare no effort or means to fulfill its obligations to them and secure their freedom, in honor of their sacrifices and steadfastness behind bars until full liberation is achieved.
