DaysofPal- The Hamas movement welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, stating that it reflects the resilience of the Lebanese people and the sacrifices of their resistance, which successfully thwarted the goals of the Israeli aggression.
In a statement, Hamas said the events in Lebanon show that “the will of peoples cannot be broken.” The movement noted that Israeli military power failed to achieve its strategic aims despite possessing “significant destructive capabilities.”
The group added that the escalation in both Lebanon and the Gaza Strip is part of a single project targeting the peoples of the region, aimed at imposing dominance through force. It said continued resilience and resistance are undermining these plans.
Hamas also expressed solidarity with the Lebanese people and their resistance, particularly Hezbollah, praising the “heroic steadfastness” and calling it a critical milestone in the broader confrontation with Israel.
The movement reaffirmed its support for Lebanon and backed the right of displaced people to return safely to their towns and homes. It also extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
According to official figures, the Israeli offensive on Lebanon began on March 2 and resulted in the deaths of 2,167 people and injuries to 7,061 others, along with the displacement of more than one million residents. The campaign coincided with a broader conflict involving Israel and Iran and included strikes on civilian areas and infrastructure.
The military operation featured intensive airstrikes and limited ground incursions, described by Israeli occupation forces at the time as an effort to dismantle resistance capabilities.
A ceasefire agreement announced by the United States came into effect late Thursday and is set to last for 10 days. The agreement allows for an extension by mutual consent between Lebanon and Israel if progress is made in negotiations and if Lebanon demonstrates its ability to enforce sovereignty on the ground.
