DaysofPal- Hamas has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of delaying negotiations on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. In a statement, the Palestinian group said that talks with Israel on the next stage of the truce have yet to begin.
Hamas spokesperson Abdul Latif al-Qanou specifically accused Netanyahu of deliberately “stalling the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.”
Al-Qanou reiterated that Hamas remains committed to fully implementing all stages of the agreement and is still awaiting Israel’s fulfillment of the “humanitarian protocol” outlined in the truce.
Hamas also alleged that Israel has been delaying the entry of essential aid, including temporary shelters like mobile homes and tents, as well as heavy machinery, which were part of the initial phase of the ceasefire deal.
The statement was released last night, just before the Israeli military claimed that one of the four bodies returned from Gaza on Thursday was not that of a captive.
The deal, mediated by Qatar and Egypt and backed by the United States, took effect on January 19. It consists of three phases, each lasting 42 days. However, Israel has been procrastinating to this day in starting negotiations for the second phase.
In the first phase of the agreement, the terms stipulate the gradual release of 33 Israelis held in Gaza, whether alive or as the bodies of the deceased, in exchange for several Palestinian and Arab detainees estimated to be between 1,700 and 2,000 people.
