DaysofPal- Residents of Gaza City are refusing to comply with Israeli displacement threats that order them to move south to so-called “humanitarian zones,” where hundreds are killed and injured every day.
The residents vow to remain in their homes despite more than two weeks of relentless bombardment and an expanding ground incursion.
The city, now home to over one million people, has become a final refuge for thousands of families repeatedly displaced during the Israeli war, which has continued for over 700 days so far.
For many families, leaving would mean the risk of permanent expulsion.
“If we leave our homes, who guarantees we will ever return?” said Saeed Mahdi Marzouq (32), a father of five who relocated within Gaza but refuses to leave the city.
“This time, they want to uproot us permanently. That will not happen.” He said.
Other residents echoed his determination.
Hossam Farina, a father of seven from Sheikh Radwan, said, “There is no safe place in Gaza. Even the so-called safe zones are bombed daily. What is the point of leaving?”
Many fear that displacement southward could be the first step toward mass expulsion outside the enclave.
“Displacement means tents without water, food, or medicine, straight into hell,” said Um Akram Hassanein, a mother of four sheltering in a Gaza school.
Despite crippling shortages of food, water, medicine, and electricity, residents insist they will endure rather than abandon their city.
“Gaza is not just buildings; it is our soul,” said Ahmad Salouha, a high school student, adding, “If we leave, we lose everything.”
Israeli forces have intensified their genocidal campaign in recent days, dropping leaflets ordering displacement from entire neighborhoods while drones and artillery continue to strike residential areas.
Human rights groups warn that the tactic amounts to collective punishment and a strategy of forced displacement.
For Gazans, the message remains defiant: “Gaza is our last home. We will not leave it.”
