DaysofPal- Israel’s 15-month war in Gaza displaced nearly all of its 2.3 million inhabitants, forcing many to live in tents under dire conditions as relentless bombings destroyed homes and infrastructure. Following a ceasefire last Sunday, Palestinians are determined to rebuild their lives, even amid the ruins.
Walaa al-Err, a displaced Palestinian who has returned to her family’s damaged home in Nuseirat camp, expressed the desperation and resilience of many in Gaza.
“We have had enough of tents and being exhausted,” she said. “We are cleaning the house and removing the rubble… We want a better life, better living conditions, and to return to what was before the war.”
The recovery process remains fraught with challenges. Medical teams have recovered the bodies of nine Palestinians killed in the town of Khuza’a, east of Khan Yunis.
The bodies of the Al-Najjar, Qudaih, and Abu Rida families were discovered more than a year after their deaths, according to local sources. More bodies are still being recovered from different locations throughout the Gaza Strip.
The Civil Defense said Thursday that its crews had recovered the nine bodies Wednesday, two from the northern governorates and Gaza and seven from the southern governorates. This brings the total number of bodies recovered to 162 since the ceasefire. Most of the recovered bodies were found in Rafah and northern Gaza, following the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Despite their efforts, Civil Defense teams face significant obstacles. Thousands of bodies remain buried under the rubble of destroyed homes and buildings, and the lack of heavy machinery and specialized equipment hampers recovery operations. The Civil Defense emphasized that these restrictions make their mission more difficult to reach the missing.
More than 11,000 people have gone missing as a result of the Israeli assault, which has also caused extensive damage and is one of the worst humanitarian crises in history, killing many children and elderly people.
