DaysofPal- Tens of thousands of Palestinians performed Eid al-Fitr prayers on Friday morning across the Gaza Strip, gathering near the ruins of destroyed mosques and in open areas beside displacement tents.
The sound of Eid takbir filled the air in a scene where spirituality intertwined with the widespread devastation left by recent Israeli attacks.
Worshippers assembled in temporary prayer areas set up on rubble or next to mosques, many of which have been largely or completely destroyed.
Raising their voices in unison, they sought to preserve the rituals of Eid despite harsh conditions, while visible signs of grief marked the faces of many who had lost relatives or homes during the Israeli genocidal war.
This year’s Eid comes amid a severe humanitarian crisis, as the ongoing blockade and deepening displacement crisis continue to affect daily life.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians remain in shelters or makeshift tents, facing acute shortages of food, water, and basic services.
Despite these hardships, a relative sense of calm prevailed during the Eid hours compared to previous holidays over the past two years, which were marked by intense military escalation and heavy airstrikes that prevented the observance of religious rituals in many areas.
On this day, Palestinians also remembered more than 72,000 people killed, in addition to around 8,000 still missing, with search efforts ongoing beneath the rubble. This reality cast a somber tone over the holiday, as grief and loss blended with attempts to hold on to life and tradition.
Friday preachers urged solidarity, maintaining family ties, unity, and collective action to counter the effects of the occupation.
In notable scenes, families brought their children to prayer sites, while worshippers exchanged brief Eid greetings, reaffirming their determination to observe the holiday despite deep wounds.
Meanwhile, local and international calls continue for lifting the blockade and improving humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
