DaysofPal- Gaza’s Government Media Office has warned of a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave as Eid al-Adha approaches, citing severe shortages of food, fuel, and basic supplies amid ongoing Israeli restrictions.
In a statement issued Monday, the office said more than 2.4 million residents are enduring increasingly harsh living conditions due to the continued blockade and the prevention of essential goods, including livestock for religious sacrifice, from entering the territory.
The statement highlighted a sharp and growing shortage of basic food items, alongside the near-collapse of the food security system.
Officials attributed the crisis to restrictions on goods and disruptions to the flow of humanitarian and commercial supplies.
Available quantities of food and essentials fall far below minimum needs, the office said, as poverty deepens, displacement expands, and sources of income and production continue to be destroyed.
Fuel shortages have further compounded the situation, disrupting supply chains and driving up prices. The lack of fuel has also reduced the operational capacity of bakeries, critical infrastructure, and essential services, raising concerns of further deterioration during the holiday period.
According to the statement, the number of aid trucks entering Gaza remains well below agreed levels.
While arrangements stipulate the entry of 600 trucks per day, including 50 carrying fuel, actual figures have reached only 37% of that total.
Fuel deliveries have been even more limited, amounting to just 14% of the agreed volume.
Over the past week, only 1,196 trucks entered Gaza out of an expected 4,200, representing a compliance rate of 28.4%, which the office described as insufficient to meet escalating humanitarian, food, and medical needs.
The office also pointed to a severe shortage of livestock due to years of import restrictions, making this year’s Eid al-Adha season highly atypical. Limited supply, coupled with declining livestock numbers and rising production costs, has led to soaring prices.
The Government Media Office warned that the continuation of these conditions is deepening the humanitarian crisis and amounts to collective punishment of civilians, in violation of international humanitarian law.
It called on the international community, the United Nations, and relevant parties to take urgent action to pressure for the full reopening of crossings and to ensure the unrestricted entry of aid, fuel, essential goods, and livestock, in order to alleviate suffering and enable residents to observe religious practices with dignity.
