Gaza Health System Collapses as Life-Saving Medicines Blocked

PCDS: Our operations paralyzed in northern Gaza

DaysofPal- Gaza’s healthcare system is on the brink of total collapse, the territory’s health director Dr. Munir Al-Bursh warned on Sunday, as the Israeli occupation continues to prevent the entry of vital medicines, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.

In a press briefing, Al-Bursh stated that the Israeli occupation is implementing a “drip-feeding policy” that allows only minimal quantities of aid to enter the Gaza Strip, far below what is needed to sustain the territory’s hospitals and clinics.

He said the restriction amounts to “a deliberate strategy to paralyze the healthcare system and intensify the suffering of Gaza’s civilians.”

According to Al-Bursh, the Israeli occupation has barred the entry of life-saving medicines, including those required for operating rooms, emergency wards, and intensive care units.

Nutritional supplements for children suffering from severe malnutrition are also being blocked, further endangering Gaza’s most vulnerable.

He said that more than 350,000 patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and kidney failure have been left without access to their essential treatments for weeks.

“People are dying not only from war injuries but also from the slow death of preventable illness,” Al-Bursh said.

Hospitals across Gaza are reportedly operating at limited capacity, relying on dwindling medical supplies and struggling to function amid persistent power outages and fuel shortages.

Al-Bursh described the situation as “an unprecedented humanitarian disaster,” warning that the continued blockade will result in “a wave of preventable deaths.”

He urged the United Nations and the international community to intervene immediately to pressure the Israeli occupation to open the crossings and allow the free flow of medical supplies and the evacuation of critical patients who require treatment abroad.

“The world cannot stand by while an entire health system is strangled into collapse,” Al-Bursh said.
