DaysofPal- The World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that the health sector in the Gaza Strip has sustained damages amounting to approximately $1.4 billion as a result of the Israeli genocide, which continues, as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate under ongoing conflict.
In a statement issued on Friday, the organization confirmed that more than 1,800 medical facilities across Gaza have been either partially or completely destroyed.
The healthcare system, already fragile, is now facing unprecedented strain, with a significant number of hospitals and clinics rendered fully or partially inoperable.
According to WHO estimates, a large proportion of healthcare facilities are no longer able to function, even as demand for medical services surges sharply due to worsening humanitarian conditions.
The destruction has extended to critical infrastructure, further crippling the sector’s ability to respond.
The organization also highlighted that continued military operations and insecurity have severely hindered the delivery of medical supplies and the movement of healthcare personnel into affected areas. This has led to the near-total collapse of some essential health services.
WHO warned that if the situation persists, Gaza could face a prolonged humanitarian catastrophe, exacerbated by acute shortages of medical supplies and fuel needed to operate hospitals.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported earlier this week that around 70% of ambulances and medical transport vehicles are now out of service.
Many were reportedly damaged during ongoing hostilities, while others have broken down due to accumulated technical issues and lack of maintenance resources.
Hostilities have continued for the 197th consecutive day despite a fragile ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10, 2025, following two years of devastating conflict.
