DaysofPal- Gaza’s Ministry of Health issued an urgent warning on Saturday, saying that most medicines and medical supplies have been exhausted in hospitals across the Gaza Strip, placing the already crippled healthcare system at risk of total collapse.
In a statement, the ministry said the few hospitals still operating are barely able to provide basic services and have effectively turned into overcrowded waiting areas for thousands of patients and wounded people with limited treatment options.
The ministry said the extensive damage to the health sector has made the continuation of medical care increasingly difficult, describing the delivery of even minimal services as a daily struggle and a major barrier to restoring specialized healthcare.
According to the statement, the complete depletion of medicines and medical consumables has left hospitals unable to provide even basic pain relief, as patients face life-threatening conditions amid severe shortages.
The ministry reported that 46 percent of essential medicines, 66 percent of medical consumables, and 84 percent of laboratory and blood bank supplies are now at zero stock levels.
It said critical services, including cancer treatment, care for blood disorders, surgical operations, intensive care units, operating theatres, and primary healthcare, have been among the most severely affected.
The ministry added that the limited medical supplies currently entering Gaza are insufficient to meet actual needs or to maintain the continuity of health services.
It warned that the survival of Gaza’s healthcare system cannot be ensured through short-term emergency measures, saying such approaches risk worsening the crisis and creating long-term consequences.
The Ministry of Health called on all relevant parties to take immediate action to replenish medicine stocks and prevent the complete breakdown of life-saving medical services in the Gaza Strip.
