DaysofPal- Gaza’s Civil Defense has warned of a worsening humanitarian disaster as Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) intensify bombardment on Gaza City, leveling more than 1,000 residential buildings in the al-Zaytoun and al-Sabra neighborhoods since August 6.
According to the Civil Defense spokesperson, rescue crews remain unable to retrieve hundreds of bodies trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed homes in eastern Gaza City, as the ongoing Israeli airstrikes have left a severe lack of equipment, and paralyzed recovery operations of the civil defense.
Appeals from families for help continue to pour in, with reports of missing people, injured civilians, and martyrs still buried in the rubble.
However, repeated bombardments and the extreme danger on the ground have prevented rescue teams from reaching them.
The spokesperson voiced deep concern over the continued Israeli ground incursion into Gaza City, warning that rescue teams are overwhelmed and unable to cope with the scale of destruction.
He stressed that no part of the Gaza Strip is safe, as civilians are being targeted in their homes, in shelters, and even in displacement tents.
The civil defense stated that Sunday’s death toll rose to 64 people, including 30 killed in attacks on aid convoys, and 39 were killed in northern Gaza (14 during aid attacks), 6 in central Gaza (5 during aid attacks), and 19 in the south (11 during aid attacks).
Meanwhile, thousands of displaced families are struggling to survive after being forced from their destroyed homes by Israeli occupation forces.
Many have crowded into schools or makeshift tents that lack clean water, food, and medical care, and children are falling sick amid poor sanitation and overcrowding, while others are sleeping in the open under continued bombardment.
Aid groups warn that unless the destruction and forced displacement stop, Gaza faces an even greater humanitarian catastrophe in the coming weeks.
