DaysofPal – Gaza held a large Quranic procession and celebration at Shati Refugee Camp, honoring around 500 hafiz and hafiza. The event, organized by the Emergency Committee in cooperation with Ayad Al-Khair and Alia Kuwait Charity Foundation, symbolized the community’s resilience and commitment to its religious and cultural identity despite two years of Israel’s genocidal war.
The procession moved through the camp with participants carrying Qurans, Palestinian flags, and banners promoting steadfastness and hope. Streets once scarred by bombing and rubble transformed into spaces of joy and spiritual reflection as families gathered to witness the event.
Hafiza Ibtisam Abu Huwaidi, who completed her memorization during the war, described the experience as a source of strength, saying the Quran provided guidance and resilience during the most challenging moments. She expressed hope that her four children would also memorize the Quran and encouraged Gaza’s youth to uphold its teachings despite harsh conditions.
The celebration concluded with certificates of appreciation and symbolic gifts for the hafiz and hafiza. Organizers emphasized that the initiative aimed to protect religious identity and promote moral values within a society grappling with immense humanitarian challenges.
During the two-year Israeli genocide, more than 835 mosques were completely destroyed and over 180 partially damaged. Ceasefire violations continued, with 875 breaches causing the deaths of 411 Palestinians and injuries to 1,112, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office. Since October 8, 2023, the attacks left approximately 71,000 dead, 171,000 injured, and nearly 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure destroyed.
