DaysofPal- Israeli occupation forces killed at least 17 Palestinians since the early morning hours, including 11 displaced people in the so-called “safe zone” of al-Mawasi, according to Palestinian medical officials.
In al-Mawasi, the heart of the so-called humanitarian zone, a temporary café frequented by displaced people was struck by one strike.
The Nasser Hospital received at least 11 people following the attack, including two children.
The strike occurred just hours after the Israeli military declared that the area would be expanded and that Palestinians fleeing other areas of Gaza should seek shelter there. In and around Muwasi, a largely barren region of dunes and agricultural fields with few amenities or services along the Mediterranean coast of southern Gaza, hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians are taking refuge in expansive tent camps.
Three people, including a woman, were killed in another strike that struck a home in the central Gazan city of Nuseirat refugee camp early on Tuesday, according to al-Awda Hospital, which treated the victims. It said that 11 other people were injured in the strike.
The UN Human Rights Office says the overwhelming majority of Palestinians killed by Israel’s military in Gaza are women and children.
It says it has verified the personal details of thousands of victims and calls for a “due reckoning” for horrific violations that may amount to genocide. It is also warning that a famine is imminent in the north, where Israel’s siege for more than a month has already killed more than 1,000 people.
