DaysofPal- Municipal authorities in the Gaza Strip have warned that a severe fuel shortage has reached an unprecedented level, threatening the collapse of basic services and placing the lives of more than two million people at risk.
The Union of Gaza Municipalities said on Wednesday that the ongoing interruption of diesel supplies, caused by the continued closure of border crossings and restrictions on fuel deliveries, has left municipalities unable to maintain essential services across the enclave.
According to the union, municipalities have been forced to scale back core operations such as opening roads, removing rubble, collecting waste, and managing sanitation.
Limited fuel supplies have also affected the operation of water wells, sewage pumps, and other critical facilities needed to sustain daily life.
Officials warned that the continued shortage could lead to a major environmental and public health crisis.
Waste accumulation has already increased in several neighborhoods, while reduced operation of generators at water and sewage facilities has caused disruptions to water distribution and sewage management.
The municipalities said they have exhausted their available resources and can no longer cope with the deepening crisis without urgent international intervention to ensure a steady supply of fuel.
In its statement, the union also criticized the international silence in the face of the impending collapse of basic services, warning that residents and displaced people in Gaza are being left to face worsening humanitarian conditions.
The authorities issued an urgent appeal to international organizations and relevant bodies to act immediately to prevent a full breakdown of essential services in the Gaza Strip.
The crisis comes amid continued restrictions on the entry of goods into Gaza, with Israeli occupation controlling the number of trucks allowed into the territory.
Most crossings have remained closed since the start of the week, while the Kerem Shalom crossing has been partially reopened with limited aid deliveries under strict procedures.
Municipal officials warned that without immediate fuel deliveries, the humanitarian situation in Gaza could deteriorate rapidly, placing millions of civilians at risk.
