Earlier this week, The newly sworn-in Israeli far-right government is preparing for the forcible expulsion of Palestinian residents of eight of the Masafer Yatta neighborhoods, South Hebron Hills of the occupied West Bank.
Israeli occupation authorities had decided to carry out the collective eviction of the indigenous Palestinian residents of the eight neighborhoods, stated the Head of the Masafer Yatta Village Council, Nidal Younis.
“The Palestinian Authority (PA) told us that the Israeli occupation is planning to evict the residents of the eight neighborhoods in the coming days,” Younis said.
Masafer Yatta and surrounding Palestinian communities are subject to ongoing Israeli violations, including multiple assaults by illegal colonizers against Palestinian farmers and their lands.
Masafer Yatta, located in southern Hebron Hills, extends over an area of 30,000 dunams, with a population of 2,500 residents distributed over 12 villages or hamlets.
More than 2000 Palestinian residents in Masafer Yatta are facing imminent expulsion from their homes by the Israeli occupation under the pretext of classifying it as a military training area for the Israeli forces in which the Palestinians have no right to live.
“Approximately 20 percent of the West Bank has been designated as ‘Firing Zones,’ affecting over 5,000 Palestinians from 38 communities,” the UN OCHA said.
It added: “Currently, Masafer Yatta is home to 215 Palestinian households, including about 1,150 people, of which 569 are children.”
