As of today Tuesday 21st of June, The prisoner Khalil Awawda (40 years), from the village of Idna, south of Hebron, continues his hunger strike for the 111th consecutive day, amid a serious deterioration in his health. Along with The prisoner, Raed Rayan (27 years), from the village of Beit Duqo, north of occupied Jerusalem, is being beaten for the 76th day; To protest their administrative detention.
Six Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons are currently on hunger strike to achieve their demands, according to the Palestinian Authority’s Detainees Affairs Commission.
Awawdeh is reported to be suffering from headaches, fatigue, pain in the joints, tachycardia, frequent vomiting and significant loss of weight after the first 52 days of hunger strike.
Freedom fighter Zakaria Zubaidi, from Jenin refugee camp who in September 2021 was able to escape from prison with five other freedom fighters but was later caught, has been on hunger strike for the 17 consecutive days in solidarity with Awawdeh and Rayyan.
At the same time, Abdullah Barghouti, from Ramallah area who is sentenced to 67 life terms, the longest sentence Israel has passed, continues his hunger strike for the twilveth day in rejection of his solitary confinement.
Mohammad Nawara, from Ramallah and who is serving a life term, has also been on hunger strike for eight days also in protest of his isolation for 11 months in a row.
On another note, the 640 administrative detainees in the occupation prisons continue to boycott the occupation courts for the 172nd day in a row, as part of their confrontation with the crime of administrative detention, with the occupation continuing to escalate its crime by issuing more orders against former and new detainees.
It is worth noting that there are about 682 prisoners in the occupation’s prisons under administrative detention decisions out of about 4600 prisoners, and the number of administrative detention decisions since 1967 is estimated at more than 54,000 decisions.
Among the administrative detainees are two female prisoners and a child, most of whom are in the prisons of Ofer, Negev, and Megiddo. Several other prisons.
Since the beginning of this year, the number of administrative detention orders has reached about 750, including administrative detention orders issued in both Jerusalem and the 1948 territories.
