DaysofPal- Former Israeli war minister Yoav Gallant has admitted that the Israeli occupation forces fabricated claims about discovering a massive tunnel in the Philadelphia Route along the Gaza-Egypt border.
A photo released last August, which Israel claimed showed a multi-story tunnel used by Palestinian resistance groups, actually depicted a shallow trench less than one meter deep and a routine water drainage channel.
Gallant revealed that the false claims were part of an effort to exaggerate the importance of the Philadelphia Route, portraying it as a conduit for weapons smuggling to delay a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.
At the time, Israeli media hailed the discovery as a “major achievement,” describing the tunnel as part of an extensive underground network.
Critics have condemned the admission as evidence of the Israeli use of misinformation to justify military actions and undermine peace efforts.
Palestinian leaders called it another example of Israeli manipulation of facts to delegitimize their cause and prolong suffering in Gaza.
The revelation raises questions about Israeli occupation and its reliance on propaganda, while underscoring the human cost of such deceptions. For now, the admission highlights the ongoing mistrust and challenges to resolving the conflict.
