Fierce clashes are currently reported between Israeli troops and Palestinian fighters in the southwestern part of the city. Israeli occupation army helicopters have been seen landing in the area, presumably to evacuate casualties.
In a related development, the al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, issued a statement claiming that its fighters are engaged in close-quarters combat with Israeli troops in the Shujayea neighborhood. This area is where the latest round of fighting in Gaza City initially began. The group also claims to have detonated explosives against Israeli army vehicles.
