Father of Israeli Soldier: Son Treated Humanely by Hamas Fighters During Captivity

DayofPal– Hagai Angerst, the father of former Israeli soldier Matan Angerst, shared details about his son’s time in Hamas captivity, revealing that he was treated humanely by the Palestinian resistance.

In an interview with Israel’s Channel 2, Angerst said that Hamas fighters allowed him to “pray three times a day using a siddur he requested and received from a Hamas official.”

He explained that his son was frequently moved between locations and endured tougher conditions due to his status as a combat soldier, not due to fighters’ mistreatment.

“His conditions were more difficult. He was a soldier who fought against them,” Angerst said. Still, he noted that his son was given food options and allowed to choose from what was available.

Angerst’s remarks align with testimonies from other former Israeli captives, both soldiers and civilians, who have confirmed in interviews that they were treated respectfully by Hamas fighters.

Many said their captors were more afraid of Israeli airstrikes than they were inclined to harm their prisoners. Female former captives also reported engaging in friendly conversations with their guards.

In the wake of these early revelations, Israeli authorities have tightened restrictions on the media and imposed strict controls over public statements made by released captives.

The move appeared to be aimed at suppressing narratives that challenge the official Israeli portrayal of the Palestinian resistance.
