DayofPal– Ahmad Younes rushed through the hallways of his home with tears streaming down his face like a raging river, desperately trying to evade the flames that consumed everything in their path.
His body was trembling, his heart was racing, and he didn’t spare a thought for his own safety when he saw his family on fire. He screamed out for his mother, his sister, his wife, and children: “Mom, I’m coming!”
Like an eagle, he soared through the chaos, determined to rescue his loved ones from the searing inferno.
Ahmad lowered his tear-filled eyes to the ground, steeling himself against the fierce flames that surrounded him. With his frail body and blood-soaked feet, he pressed on through the chaos: “the flames, the rubble of his home, and the thick black smoke.”
All of this was for the sake of rescuing his family, who cried out in pain from the burns on their small bodies.
Terrifying and shocking scenes of children who were injured or succumbed to the flames of Israeli missiles were unfolding before his eyes.
Meanwhile, he embodied other heroic moments by attempting to save his family, who fell victim to a brutal Israeli strike on September 7, 2024.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, about 97,303 civilians have been injured since the onset of the genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation army against Gaza population on October 7, 2024.
Of the total injuries, there are about 396 journalists and media personnel. Meanwhile, over 25,000 injured are awaiting Israeli permits to leave the enclave for medical treatment.
“I was at home with my children—Hossam, Elia, Salam, and Yaman—along with my wife, my parents, and my sister Amani. We were living a happy life. But when the clock struck four on the afternoon of September 7, our world turned upside down,” Ahmed recounted the harrowing details to Shams News.
“Suddenly the house was filled with smoke and debris. All I could see were the flames devouring everything in our home,” he added.
At that moment, Ahmed was immensely shocked by the chaos unfolding around him and started to recall the excruciating moments.
“I wasn’t fully aware of what was happening, but all I knew was that I had to save my children before it was too late. The hardest to rescue were my wife and my son, Hussam, who was just 9 years old.”
Ahmed paused for a moment and his eyes were brimming with tears as he continued recounting his story with anguish, saying “The flames were eating up my mother’s body and I couldn’t save her, nor my sister Amani or my son Hussam.”
He said this while he was running his left hand across his right shoulder, trying to soothe the searing pain of third-degree burns that marked his skin, when he, in an instant, sprang into action, racing to save his family despite the flames surrounding him.
His four-year-old daughter, Elia, was trapped beneath the rubble and the flames were enveloping her feet before he managed to recover his daughter from the raging inferno.
Gaza Government Media Office said that 70% of Gaza death toll is children and women. 16,900 children were murdered in cold blood, and 11,400 women were killed.
The World Health Organization reported that the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza has resulted in 6% of the total population being killed or injured over the past year. It added that nearly 1,000 health workers have been killed in the past 12 months.
After hours, Ahmed finally emerged from the flames and from beyond the house’s destroyed walls, where paramedics could take her daughter Elia from his burning arms.
Ahmed’s three children and his wife were quickly rushed to Al-Awda Hospital, then hospitalized to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah for necessary treatment.
His mother and sister were killed, and the rest of his own family have been lying on Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital’s beds, all suffering from varying degrees of burns, with his wife and little Elia in the most critical condition.
