The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor warned Monday June 1st, 2024, that the Israeli incitement against Dr. Muhammad Abu Selamyia, who is the director of Al-Shifa Medical hospital in Gaza, following his release after a 7-month detention, raises serious concerns about his life.
“We warn of the possibility of re-arresting Dr. Abu Selmiya or targeting and intentionally killing him, following the incitement campaign launched by senior Israeli officials against his release.
The release of Dr. Abu Selmiya today, along with several medical staff, without any charges against him, provides further evidence that the pretexts used by the Israeli army to raid, besiege, and destroy Al-Shifa hospital were completely baseless and fabricated.
The organization confirmed that the real objective behind the systematic raid of the army imto Al-Shifa hospital and the arrest of doctors and officials there was to destroy one of the most prominent components of the health sector in Gaza, depriving Palestinians of any chance for treatment, safety, and even shelter.
The organization has held ‘Israel’ fully responsible for the life of Dr. Abu Selmiya, emphasizing that any infringement on his freedom, personal safety, or exposure to any danger is the responsibility of the Israeli authorities, who are conducting a wide-ranging political and media campaign against the Palestinian doctor and against the decision to release him.
Israeli prison service continues to arrest thousands of Palestinians from Gaza, subjecting them to torture and mistreatment, including doctors and medical personnel.
Prisoners Undergo Harsh Conditions
Dr. Mohammed Abu Salamiya elaborated about the harsh conditions of prison Palestinains detainees undergoing, saying the Israeli occupation deprives all prisoners of their rights and medications. In addition, Israeli medical teams deliberately assault Palestinian detainees, violating humanitarian standards.
Some prisoners, he added, have lost up to 30 kilograms due to food deprivation.
“I was detained from a humanitarian convoy transporting wounded from Shifa Complex via Erez Crossing. I was subjected to near-daily torture in Israeli prisons,”he further said.
‘No international organization visited us in prison; we were barred from meeting any lawyers.
