DaysofPal- The European Union has raised serious concerns over Israeli restrictions that block international aid organizations from operating in Gaza, warning that such actions risk undermining the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the besieged territory.
In a joint statement, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kalas, Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dobrava Zuyka, and Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management Haja Habib stressed the importance of enabling international NGOs to operate sustainably to ensure aid reaches those in need quickly, safely, and in adequate volumes.
The warning follows the Israeli recent decision to revoke permits for 37 international relief organizations operating in Gaza, citing non-compliance with new security registration procedures and incomplete staff data.
Israeli occupation forces claimed that these organizations account for less than 1% of the total aid entering Gaza and that aid flows would not be affected.
The EU statement highlighted the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, particularly as winter brings heavy rains and freezing temperatures.
It noted that many residents lack safe shelter, children remain unable to attend schools, and health facilities are operating at near paralysis due to severe shortages of staff and medical supplies.
“The ongoing restrictions on international NGOs risk further worsening the humanitarian crisis,” the statement said, calling for broad, rapid, and unhindered delivery of aid and ensuring sustainable distribution.
International and Palestinian organizations have echoed the EU’s concerns, warning that Gaza’s population continues to suffer from extensive destruction, acute food and medicine shortages, and severe limitations on relief access.
